U.S. vs Honduras, Tracy emerges and DeMerit returns

Today I'm going to give my thoughts on some of the news tidbits that can be found over at Soccer by Ives. We're talking about a possible friendly with Honduras, the emergence of Marcus Tracy in Denmark and Jay DeMerit's return to action for Watford.

The United States is going to play fellow CONCACAF World Cup participant Honduras in a January friendly at the Home Depot Center in lovely Carson, California. Hopefully Honduras will send a stronger side than some of the other teams that the U.S. has faced following their annual January camp. Either way, this match should provide some lesser known American players a chance to impress the coaching staff against a high quality opponent.

One of the players looking to get an invite to that camp and show Mr. Bob Bradley what he can do is Aalborg BK, and former Wake Forest forward, Marcus Tracy. Tracy has started the last four matches for Aalborg and scored the game winning goal in his debut. If you recall, I brought up the idea of Tracy being a legitimate National Team option a few weeks ago and now it seems like that idea is gaining a little traction in the real world.

In "American soccer player returning from injury after long layoff news," Jay DeMerit got on the pitch for Watford after recovering from an eye injury. If you don't remember, DeMerit injured his eye while putting on a contact lens and then managed to get an infection that required surgery and caused him to miss about 3 months of action. DeMerit will be called upon to fill in for Oguchi Onyewu as he returns from knee surgery and will look to cement his spot on the World Cup roster next summer.
