Many American fans have long wanted to see Landon Donovan try his hand in the EPL. Well The Guardian is reporting that EPL club Everton has made initial contact with the player regarding a possible loan deal that would see Donovan head over to jolly olde England during the January transfer window.
Everton boss David Moyes is looking for help on the offensive end but the club doesn't have the financial strength to look for a permanent move. Moyes is also familiar with American players and MLS as he took Brian Mcbride on loan earlier in the decade and currently employs Tim Howard. Scoring a loan move for a player of Donovan's ilk would be pretty impressive for Everton and would provide a player capable of succeeding at a variety of positions.
If Donovan is looking to make a permanent move across the pond then this obviously would not be a great move since he would have to return to MLS after the loan deal expires. If Donovan does plan on staying in MLS then this is a move that could work out nicely for him. Everton is struggling and there are minutes to be had and Donovan would handle the fast pace of the EPL quite well. The only downside to this move would be if Donovan failed to make an impact on the pitch. He struggled to find the field during his winter loan move to Bayern Munich last year and a similar experience at a lesser club would not help Donovan in the least. For now, this is just talk but I'd like to see it happen. Donovan is our best player and I'd like to see how he stacks up in the biggest league in the world right now.
