Donovan finalizes loan deal with Everton

News of Landon Donovan's loan move to Everton has heated up quickly over the last two days. In fact, Soccer by Ives is now reporting that this loan deal has been finalized and Donovan will join Everton on January 1 after the transfer window opens in Europe. The loan deal will apparently see Donovan spent about 2 months with the struggling Premiership club and will return to the Los Angeles Galaxy prior to the start of the MLS season in March.

I think that this is a good move for Donovan and should provide him with some quality training and an opportunity to increase his standing on the world stage. Playing for any team in the EPL will offer great exposure but Donovan will also be able to compete in Europa League matches and FA Cup matches which should provide him plenty of playing time. Donovan is also close to signing a new deal with the Galaxy that will reportedly double his salary for the extent of the contract. If he does in fact choose to remain in MLS for the next few years then I think we can expect moves like this to become a yearly occurrence for the speedy striker/midfielder. Unless some club is so impressed by Donovan that they are willing to fork over the money to purchase him from the Galaxy, which is always a possibility. Especially in England.
