Ives Galarcep over at one of my favorite sites listed a few players that may be called into the national team camp for the upcoming friendlies against Slovakia and Denmark in this post. With the absences of Charlie Davies, Oguchi Onyewu, Jay DeMerit and a handful of MLS players whose teams progress in the MLS playoffs, Bob Bradley will need to look at some new options to step onto the field. After going the Ives' list I realized that there may be one player who was left off of that list who stands an outside chance of getting the call. That player is Marcus Tracy.
Tracy is currently in his first season with Aalborg in Denmark. He is a big, strong and fast forward who had a great career at Wake Forest before going pro. It hit me after seeing Eddie Johnson's name on the list (and shivering, quite frankly) that maybe a player like Tracy is a better option. Johnson hasn't seen much action for Fulham and has been in a constant struggle with his form for the past 2 years while Tracy is a young player with great potential who is just starting to embark on his career. What is the downside to bringing in a player who has the potential to be a very dangerous threat in the short term and a great player in the long term? Will leaving Eddie Johnson behind in favor of Tracy have any lasting effect on the national team? Ask yourself those questions and call me in the morning.
