Thanksgiving soccer thoughts

With Thanksgiving upon us I could easily write one of those great posts about what I'm thankful for this year. Well I'm not going to do that. So now all of you readers out there can be thankful that I didn't put you through that pain. You're welcome.

In the world of American soccer, the big news is that Clint Dempsey had 2 goals in Fulham's 3-0 win over Blackburn Rovers. Dempsey now has 5 goals on the season and is starting to become a great goal scorer on the club level. The question with Dempsey is why can he not consistently perform on the national team level? I get the feeling that Dempsey is a big game player and we'll see Dempsey at his best next summer at the World Cup in South Africa.

Another highlight has been the recent play of Jozy Altidore with Hull City who has started two consecutive matches after struggling to get minutes for a month or so. Altidore is a player who really needs to continue to get minutes at Hull in order to improve his consistency and maturity. Altidore will be counted on heavily at the World Cup and his ability to score goals could be the difference between success and failure.

Happy Thanksgiving to all, and to all a good night.
