U-17's fall to Spain; Altidore fined; U.S. set to play Slovakia

We had a pretty busy news day today so lets not waste anybodies time, especially mine.

U.S.A. U-17 national team loses 2-1 to Spain

Despite losing a player to a red card in the second minute and going down a goal in the 3rd, Spain managed to control the game and take down the strong American side 2-1 in each teams opening match of the U-17 World Cup in Nigeria. This match also featured mutliple stoppages due to a faulty lighting system and went into the 103rd minute of regular time due to the issues. For a team that was looking to possibly win this tournament this loss might be a sign that they may not be at the top of the food chain just yet. Spain is at the top and beating the Americans with 10 men proves that. Here's a match report.

Altidore to be fined by Hull for tweeting

Jozy Altidore did not dress for Hull City's match this past weekend because he "showed up late" and was left out of the lineup as punishment. Altidore posted an apology to the fans for his actions on Twitter and mentioned the reason why he was late in the tweet and managed to piss off his coach Phil Brown. Now Altidore may be facing a hefty fine for his tweet. First of all, Phil Brown is an arse. Second, this whole thing is just a way for Brown to take the pressure off of the fact that he can't get a win to save his life or, more likely, his job. This is a man who is cracking and is looking for any reason to deflect the attention and place the blame elsewhere. Don't worry Jozy, you'll be playing for a new manager by January.

U.S. finalizes plan to play Slovakia Nov. 14th

The USSF has finalized plans to play Slovakia on November 14th in Slovakia. This match will take place 4 days before the match against Denmark and will provide the U.S. a great chance to get many of their best players together to battle some tough World Cup teams. Sunil Gulati is definately looking to challenge this team in the run up to the Cup.
