Onyewu out 3-4 months with torn pattelar tendon

While Jonathan Bornstein's injury time goal capped of one of the most emotionally taxing weeks in U.S. soccer history, the man who's injury helped stretch the extra time to 5 minutes now faces a long road back to the field. Starting defender, and large man, Oguchi Onyewu suffered a torn pattelar tendon while back pedalling to get under a corner kick. Onyewu, and a handful of Costa Rican players, immediately called for the training staff to come onto the field. The look on Onyewu's face as he was carried off the field was that of pain and disappointment. He knew it was serious as soon as it happened and at the time he must've felt like he was letting the team down. Now he must undergo surgery and a four month recovery process to get himself ready for the World Cup.

First he must get back into playing shape and try to earn a spot on the AC Milan roster after he's cleared to play. Speaking of Milan, Steve Goff has reported that the club is apparently unhappy with the U.S.S.F. and is blaming them for Onyewu's injury. I'm sure that Bob Bradley wanted his best defender to have to recover from a serious knee injury with the World Cup just eight months away. Seems like a little misplaced anger if you ask me. Then again, Italians are known for their misplaced anger so maybe this is just normal behavior.
