What do the four people listed above have in common? Well, none of us played first team football last weekend and I'm also guessing that none of us can sing. But after Tuesday's European action where one of us starred, one of us actually started, one of us cooked pasta for the fam and one of us was set free from under a black cloud, the world is looking a little bit brighter today.
Brad Guzan saved three penalty kicks in the shoot-out to lead Aston Villa to a Carling Cup victory over Sunderland. Guzan has played sparingly this season, backing up fellow Yank Brad Friedel, but has come up big when he has seen the field.
DaMarcus Beasley started and played 75 minutes for Rangers in a 3-1 Scottish Cup victory over Dundee United. This was Beasley's first appearance of the season and is hopefully something that he can use to push himself back into the rotation for both club and country.
Hull City manager Phil Brown has reportedly been let go of his duties after a horrible start to the season. This move could allow a manager who is willing to play two forwards to take over and put Jozy Altidore and his Twitter account on the field where it belongs. Brown had seemed hesistant to play Altidore despite his sides inability to score goals in league play. Now that Brown is gone, Altidore has a chance to start fresh and impress his new manager with his mixture of skill and physical attributes.
And yes, I was the one who made pasta for the family last night. I made a zesty tomato sauce with salad dressing and turkey bacon that went over well with the bacon loving, youth portion of the household.
